Which Whey Should I Go?

As you continue to work toward eating healthier, scouring health food stores for gluten-free meal options and integrating more balanced nutrients into your diet, it’s easy to become obsessed with researching all the health trends out there today. Finding every morsel of information about what you’re putting in your body is the best thing you can do for yourself. To truly understand where your food comes from, what ingredients are in it, how those ingredients affect your body, and why you have cravings for certain foods can all be important pieces of data that will help you along your path of healthy living.Cookies & Cream Arctic Zero

It’s critical that you really listen to what your body is craving, and as you know from my recent posts, I am a huge fan of two particular products: Arctic Zero and Quest Protein Bars. After trying several varieties of both, I decided it was time to “look under the hood” to identify the ingredients that were in both products. Lo and behold – they each contained one ingredient in common: Whey Protein.

So what exactly is Whey Protein?

According to Medical News Today, Whey protein is a complete protein that contains all 9 essential amino acids and is low in lactose content. You may have seen this ingredient at the top of the list on products such as protein shakes, powders, bars or supplements, and it provides a number of valuable health benefits, including help for:

  • Weight Management
  • Cancer Prevention
  • Asthma
  • Cholesterol Management
  • Blood Pressure Regulation

If you’re not a “protein powder person” who prefers to obtain their nutrients from natural foods, then you can get Whey protein from lactose-based dairy products, such as:Dairy

  • Cow’s or goat’s milk
  • Cheese
  • Sour cream
  • Ice cream
  • Yogurt

If you are lactose-intolerant, sensitive to lactose or if you’re simply choosing to abstain from dairy in your diet, then I highly recommend Arctic Zero and Quest Protein Bars, as these are both low in lactose content.

The Quest is Over…

…for the ideal protein bar, that is! In my recent post, “Top 5 Bars (The Healthy Kind!),” I shared with you my top five favorite protein bars. These particular five met all the criteria that I seek out when looking for the best protein bar to satisfy 8am hunger pangs: low in carbohydrates, free of gluten and minimal sugar levels. When sharing this review, I had just placed my first online order for the one bar that I had heard so much about from fellow health nuts, but had yet to try – the Quest Protein Bar. Since then, I received my shipment and fell in love! So much, in fact, that I not only immediately shared my excitement and satisfaction with the Edible Epiphanies community, but I’m also dedicating today’s post entirely to the almighty Quest Protein Bar! If you haven’t heard of it, seen it, ordered it, tried it or cared about it, start NOW.

Quest Protein Bar

I received the 12-bar sampler box and have spent every day trying a new variety, but have yet to try every flavor Quest produces. The excitement each morning of getting to taste a new variety is comparable to a child’s enthusiasm on Christmas morning (they are just that good!)

So far, I have tried Cookies & Cream – which, in any type of food, is always my favorite flavor, so I may be a bit biased here (Arctic Zero, anyone?) – as well as Double Chocolate Chunk, Chocolate Peanut Butter and a few others. I can already confidently say that Quest Protein Bars are hard to beat.

Cookies & Cream Quest Protein Bar

When I review a product – especially a protein bar – I take every possible feature into consideration – the taste, texture, nutrition facts, satiety level, and aftertaste. In every category, the Quest Protein Bar hit the mark. The texture is similar to that of a PowerBar (chewy and dense); the complexity of the flavors is incredible, especially in the Cookies & Cream bar, as the bar is chock full of creamy chunks that taste like the inside of an Oreo cookie. The fact that they are gluten free, low in sugar, low in carbohydrates, and high in protein is what attracted me to them in the first place, so these features go without saying.

What makes the Quest Protein Bar truly top my list is the fact that you are left completely satisfied after savoring one in the morning with a cup of coffee. Its fiber and protein content easily hold you over until your next meal.

The icing on the deliciously sweet and satisfying Cinnamon Roll (also one of my favorite flavors) is their stellar customer service throughout the order process. From the moment I became interested in trying the bars to the moment I received my first package in the mail, I was 100 percent confident in the company’s mission to support healthy living. It is clear that they are truly passionate about providing the highest quality products to people who are dedicated to leading healthy lifestyles, which is why Edible Epiphanies loves them so much!
